5 Dead After Small Plane Crashes Near Louisiana Walmart

LAFAYETTE, LA ā Five people have died after a small plane crashed near Lafayette, Louisiana early Saturday, according to KPEL 1420. The privately-owned twin-engine small plane crashed near a Walmart SuperCenter Saturday morning, a spokesman for the Lafayette police department confirmed.
The plane crashed near the intersection of Verot School Road and Pinhook Road, not far from the municipal airport landing strip there, he said. There were various reports on social media that the small planed crashed into the nearby Walmart, but those are untrue, he said.
Residents were asked to avoid the area.

The Associated Press reported that one of the dead is Carley McCord, a sports reporter in Louisiana and the daughter-in-law of the offensive coordinator for Louisiana State University, which is playing on Saturday.

Multiple reports say that one of the people injured had been on the ground when the crash occurred.
