LSU Forward Wayde Sims Killed In Baton Rouge Shooting

The promising forward was shot during an altercation about a block from A.W. Mumford Stadium, according to reports.

BATON ROUGE, LA — Louisiana State University men's basketball forward Wayde Sims has been shot and killed, according to reports. Sims, 20, was shot near the Southern University Campus.

Sports Illustrated reported he was shot around 12:25 a.m. Friday and taken to a local hospital where he died from his injury.

Sims was shot by a Subway about a block from Southern's A.W. Mumford Stadium during an altercation, according to a report from the Advocate.

Sgt. L'Jean McKneely with the Baton Rouge Police Department said there have been no arrests, but police have talked to several people and are continuing to investigate.

Police released a video taken around the time of the incident in hopes of identifying anybody there in order to find the shooter. Warning: this video contains possibly disturbing content.

Sports Illustrated reported Sims, who was a promising player, was entering his junior year at LSU.
