Hilarious Police Report Of Cat In Tree Guaranteed To Make You Smile

A cat conducted "an orchestra of lunacy" when it refused to come down from a tree in Bangor, Maine, the police department said.

BANGOR, ME — So, a cat climbed up a tree in Bangor, Maine, the other day. It’s what cats do, but local cops posted an account of the rescue attempt on Facebook that may rank as one of the most hilarious police reports ever.

With all of the grave news in headlines, the post is worth a read. It reinforces a universally known fact: Cats do what they want, and no amount of pleading by mere humans is going to change that. Anyone who ever owned a cat — or rather, anyone who has ever been owned by a cat — can relate.

Normally, the police department said, calls about cats in trees aren’t a big priority, but this one offered a great opportunity for some warm and fuzzy interaction with the public. It was a good call. The post has been shared thousands of times and has generated hundreds of shares.

Officer Dustin Dow responded to the initial call, but determined there was nothing to be done. “It should be noted that cats tend to come down out of trees when they make a decision to do so,” the police department wrote. “Pleading with a cat to return to terra firma is done purely to please those standing around and looking up. …”

The post went on: “A cat, conducting an orchestra of lunacy. Why would he come down with entertainment like that?”

A man determined to bring the cat down needed some assistance after he climbed the “mighty Spruce” and was between 60 and 80 feet above ground when Dow returned to the scene.

“It was pitch black and Dow used his flashlight to guide the man down to the ground,” the police department said. “They both left and the cat waited for his next victim.”

It all ended well. The cat finally exited the tree, “probably out of pure boredom after the foot traffic in the area subsided and he could find no more victims to be lured into his devious little plan,” the police department wrote.
