Kennebec Intra-District Schools Regional School Unit 2: Social-Emotional Learning Coordinator At Hall-Dale ES

Summary: The Social-Emotional Learning Coordinator works as a member of an interdisciplinary team, including the counselor, school administration, teachers, and staff. The position is responsible for providing classroom and school team consultation, professional development and coaching to implement a trauma-informed approach and ensure successful program implementation at the school. The SEL Coordinator will provide individualized, classroom-based coaching to support teachers in building supportive relationships with students and implementing and sustaining trauma-informed and SEL practices that promote student voice and empowerment and student well-being. This position works with administrative, instructional, and non-instructional staff to develop a holistic approach that emphasizes emotional wellness for staff and students, implementing trauma-informed systems to promote student and staff resilience and increase positive academic and non-academic outcomes for students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direct consultation and coaching to school administration, teachers, and staff to ensure successful implementation in becoming a trauma-informed school
- Learn and remain up to date about the science behind the impact of trauma, stress, emotion on cognition and behavior. Share this information with students and staff formally and informally.
- Be knowledgeable about and have awareness of trauma (and how it relates to school culture), the effects of poverty, resilience, adverse child and community experiences, school climate, social and emotional learning, growth mindset, and the whole child approach.
- Collaborate with administration, teachers, and other team members to establish effective school staff teams and facilitate RTI team meetings to address students’ behavioral, academic, and social and emotional issues in the school-based environment
- Contribute to student RTI conversations and assist in designing tier 1 interventions using core components of Social-Emotional Learning, PBIS, Restorative Practices, and Trauma Responsive Practices, as well as relevant monitoring strategies
- Deliver professional learning experiences to building staff in areas related to trauma-responsive classroom management strategies, positive behavioral interventions, restorative practices, data collection methods and other relevant topics as determined in collaboration with building leadership
- Cultivate strong, purposeful relationships with all school stakeholders, including teachers, school leaders, staff, parents, and community members to better meet the needs of all learners
- Participate in the ongoing development and refinement of trauma-informed schools
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials necessary to provide individualized and small group social-emotional instruction appropriate for the needs of students

- Communicate with parents, colleagues, and administration.
- Perform all other duties as assigned in a spirit of collaboration and teamwork.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Maine K-8 Teaching Certification 020
- Minimum of three years teaching experience preferred
- Experience coaching and developing other teachers to improve their classroom management and instructional practice
- Deep understanding of poverty and trauma and a commitment to equity informed school practices
- Experience working with students with complex social/emotional needs, and/or histories of traumatic experience
- Familiarity with SEL, PBIS and Trauma Informed School Practices curricula
- Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills
- An active learner with a desire to grown and learn
Position details: This is a grant-funded, full-time, two-year opportunity with a contracted salary based on experience.
