Maine Black Bear Struck By Car, Killed In Wells

Wells police said a bear weighing at least 250 pounds was killed in a collision on Sanford Road Saturday.

WELLS, ME — A Maine black bear weighing at least 250 pounds was struck and killed by a vehicle in Wells Saturday night, according to police. The animal was killed instantly, police said. The vehicle's occupants were not hurt.

"This is a good reminder to bring in your bird feeders and secure your trash," Wells police said in a statement. "The bears are out and about right now and they are looking for food."
