Maine Woman Drowns Rabid Raccoon After Attack: Report
The Bangor Daily News reported a Maine woman drowned a rabid raccoon in a puddle after it attacked her while she was jogging.
HOPE, ME — A 21-year-old Maine woman drowned a rabid raccoon after it attacked her while she was out jogging, according to the Bangor Daily News. Rachel Borch, 21, of Hope, told the newspaper the animal bit her on the thumb and would not let go in a wooded area near her home several days ago.
“With my thumb in its mouth, I just pushed its head down into the muck,” Borch told the newspaper. “It was still struggling and clawing at my arms. It wouldn’t let go of my thumb."
She said she held the animal under until she was able to free her hand and run away. The animal died and Borch is currently undergoing rabies treatment, the newspaper reported.
