Missing Maine Kayaker Found Safe
The Coast Guard said a kayaker is lucky to be alive after falling in the water off the coast of Maine this week.
MILBRIDGE, ME — A kayaker is "incredibly fortunate" to be alive after falling in the water off the coast of Maine this week. The Coast Guard said Adrian Cerezo was hit by a wave and fell in the water Wednesday near Bois Bubert Island in Milbridge. He sent out a distress call and the Coast Guard launched a search.

Cerezo was wearing a winter wetsuit and lifejacket, which allowed him to withstand the 49-degree water temperature as he swam to Bois Bubert Island, according to Coast Guard Officer Ken Stuart. Cerezo then was able to get back in his kayak and paddled to Petit Manan.

"It's incredibly fortunate we located him safe on land," Stuart said in a statement. "He absolutely did the right thing by researching the water temperature, recognizing the need to dress for the 49-degree water, and (wearing) a lifejacket, all of which contributed to keeping him safe once things went wrong."
