Sanford Arson Fire: 3 Boys Arrested, $1M In Damage

Three Sanford boys were charged with starting a massive fire at the Stenton Trust Mill Friday.

SANFORD, ME — Three Sanford boys were arrested and charged with starting a massive fire at an abandoned mill Friday that reportedly caused $1 million in damage. The trio are a 12-year-old and two 13-years-olds, according to Maine State Police. Their names were not immediately released.

The boys set the fire at the Stenton Trust Mill, authorities said. The fire hit five alarms; no one was hurt. Police said two homeless men had been staying the building but were later found safe.

Sanford City Manager Steven Buck told WGME two buildings damaged in the fire must be torn down at a cost of $1 million.
