Aberdeen Ironbirds Player Killed in Motorcycle Crash

Ramon Ramirez, 23, was a member of the Orioles organization, including the Aberdeen Ironbirds.

Aberdeen Ironbirds infielder Ramon Ramirez died over the weekend riding a motorcycle in the Dominican Republic, according to a statement from the Orioles. Ramirez was 23.

Ramirez was an undrafted free agent signed in 2014 who played one game with the Ironbirds, on Sept. 7 against Winston-Salem, in 2015, the statement said.

At the time of the crash Saturday night, Ramirez was on the back of a motorcycle with his girlfriend, who broke her leg in the collision, ESPN reported.

Ramirez played 55 minor league games in his career, according to Bleacher Report, which said he batted .238 and had 11 stolen bases and 18 runs.
