Aberdeen Schools Closed Amid Police Activity: UPDATE

UPDATE (9:10 a.m.)—Five schools and one center in Aberdeen are closed on Friday, according to Harford County Public Schools.

George Lisby, Hall’s Cross Roads and Bakerfield elementary schools; Aberdeen Middle School; Aberdeen High School; and the Center for Educational Opportunity are closed on Friday, Dec. 4, during a police investigation.

The Aberdeen Police Department reports it is actively searching for a suspect after an officer was non-fatally shot in the face Friday morning.

There will be a delayed opening for multiple schools in Aberdeen Friday morning due to a police investigation, according to Harford County Public Schools.

Five schools will open later than usual, and the Center for Educational Opportunity will be closed.

The following schools will open three hours later than usual for both students and staff, Harford County Public Schools officials said in a statement Friday morning:

• George Lisby at Hillsdale Elementary
• Hall’s Cross Roads Elementary
• Bakerfield Elementary
• Aberdeen Middle School
• Aberdeen High School

Those who are in magnet programs and are already on the way to school will be kept inside, according to school officials.

Otherwise, students should arrive at their bus stops three hours later than usual.

Statement on Aberdeen Schools Closing (9:08 a.m.)

Due to the continuation of the police investigation, George Lisby at Hillsdale Elementary, Hall’s Cross Roads Elementary, Bakerfield Elementary, Aberdeen Middle and Aberdeen High school will be CLOSED today, Friday, December 4, 2015 to students and staff. Magnet students will be returned home on the inclement weather early closing plan. After school activities are cancelled.

Full Statement from Harford County Public Schools (6:16 a.m.)

Due to an ongoing police investigation in the Aberdeen area, as a precaution George Lisby at Hillsdale Elementary, Hall’s Cross Roads Elementary, Bakerfield Elementary, Aberdeen Middle and Aberdeen High schools will open at 10:00 a.m. for students and staff. Magnet students who are in route will be kept in the school. We will reevaluate.

Update: Center for Educational Opportunity Closed (8:21)

Due to the delayed openings and changes to the transportation schedule for some of our Aberdeen-area schools this morning, the Alternative Education at the Center for Educational Opportunity will be CLOSED today, Friday, December 4, 2015, to students and staff.
