Iota Nu Applauds the Achievements of a Teen and Preteen

The Brothers of Iota Nu Chapter awarded a scholarship to a resilient 17-year old girl for the best essay submitted in Harford County and recognized a 12-year old girl as the remarkable Citizen of the Year. Both teen and preteen attended the Achievement Week Scholarship and Awards Luncheon of the Iota Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc along with community members, Chapter brothers and supporters. The Luncheon served as the finale to a full week of activities celebrating the successes of community’s and Iota Nu’s charitable social initiatives.

The Iota Nu Chapter’s winner of the International High School Essay Contest was 17-year old, Ms. Ezinna Adiele. She is an active senior attending Edgewood High School. She plans to major in international relations at a yet-undecided University next year. The Citizen of the Year was 12- year old, Ms. Grace E. Callwood. She is a resident of Harford County and founder and chairwoman of the “WeCancerve Movement, Inc” which is an organization that creates giving opportunities that can be supported by the community to bring happiness to homeless, sick and foster children. WeCancerve has teamed with the Iota Nu Chapter on several creative acts of giving.

Joining the young ladies as awardees was Brother Aureilo Burton, 2016 Omega Man of the Year, for his service to Iota Nu and Harford County; Brother Leonard Newman, Founders Award; Brother Michael Bennett, Superior Service Award; and Brother Brigadier General Alfred Abramson, the Colonel Charles Young Leadership Award. The award program included a reading by scholarship winner Ms. Ezinna Adiele and a keynote address by Brother Rasheed Ali Cromwell, Esq., Founder and President of the Harbor Institute, who delivered a motivating message on “Living the Founders’ Vision.” The celebratory event was attended by 85 members of the community which included the awardees, government officials, Brothers and families. In attendance were the Harford County Executive Representative Ms. Lawanda Edwards and the Senior Mission Commander of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Omega Psi Phi Brother, Major General Bruce T. Crawford.

Achievement Week began with a Sunday worship service at Saint James AME Church in Havre de Grace, MD. On Monday the brothers gathered for football and fellowship in Bel Air, MD. On Tuesday thanksgiving baskets destined for needing families were staged. The Brothers conducted a regular Chapter meeting on Wednesday. On Thursday, Iota Nu’s Past Basileus, Brother Dwayne Adams, hosted a Founders’ Day Fellowship event which included a rededication ceremony celebrating 105 years of the Fraternity’s existence. The penultimate event for Achievement Week was delivering thanksgiving baskets laden with turkeys and all the trimmings to families selected by the Boys & Girls Clubs in Harford County.
