Child, Cancer Survivor Donates Toys to Aberdeen Homeless Center for Kids

There is scientific evidence that supports doing good deeds could lead to longer, healthier life.

William S. James Elementary School second grader Grace Callwood put that theory to the test.

Callwood is currently in remission following a two-plus-year bout with cancer. Her recovery can be attributed in large part to amazing doctors and a fighting spirit, although a little charity from a little girl could've played a huge role.

While fighting her cancer, Callwood donated many of her personal toys, books and games to children at the Harford Family House, a shelter for homeless families and children.

"Grace personifies selfless giving and thinking of others before oneself," said Joyce Duffy, Executive Director of Harford Family House in a release.  "Let’s all keep her in our thought and prayers for a full and permanent recovery."

Callwood, her mother and grandmother, dropped off two boxes filled with stuffed animals, puzzles, princess purses, books and more, the release states. 

Now that Callwood is on the mend, she and her family say they plan to volunteer more often at the Harford Family House in Aberdeen.
