Civil Air Patrol squadron plans open house

The Harford Composite Squadron is hosting an open house in September 2019

Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD— The Harford Composite Squadron, local unit of the Civil Air Patrol, is hosting an open house Monday, September, 30, 2019 from 7pm to 9pm at 6483 Wayberry Rd Building 4508 (STEM Center) Aberdeen Proving Ground 21005. According to Lieutenant Colonel David Roberts, squadron commander, the entire community is welcome to attend and learn more about CAP.

CAP was established Dec. 1, 1941, and Harford Composite Squadron is celebrating Civil Air Patrol Week Dec. 1-7. The open house is part of the anniversary observance designed to create a greater awareness of CAP’s presence and contributions in the community.

Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with 57,000 members nationwide. CAP performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited by the AFRCC with saving 90 lives in fiscal year 2008. Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and counterdrug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 22,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs.
