Club Camp Out Success Despite COVID

Family Fun night on the Mound

Friday October 2nd, families joined Aberdeen Boys and Girls Club for a night on the mound at VI Ripken Field. The organization hosted its first “Club Camp Out,” which featured a premiere of the live-action Disney movie "Mulan" on an inflatable screen at home plate. During this event families enjoyed marshmallow roasting, good food, and an all-around camping atmosphere, all while practicing CDC social distancing guidelines.

Although COVID-19 placed some limitations on the festivities, nearly 75 people came out to participate in the Club Camp Out event. Masks were worn and necessary precautions were put into place to keep families and staff safe. The organization is open to hosting more Club Camp Outs in the future.

This event was put together as a “breath of fresh air for the Aberdeen community,” stated Vernon Bradford, the new director at Aberdeen Boys and Girls Club. This was Bradford’s first event of the school year and his first event with his Aberdeen club members.

“My team and I said our children have been secluded for so long, life as we knew it was stripped from us due to COVID-19, and the movie theaters became non-existent. This was needed. A sense of normalcy,” said Bradford.

The Boys and Girls Club is also planning a Breast Cancer Awareness walk in Aberdeen on October 24, 2020. More information about the Boys and Girls Club and their upcoming events can be found at bgcharfordcecil.org

“Despite all that is going on in the world, the Boys and Girls Club’s mission is still at the forefront ‘Serving those who need us most,’” said Bradford.
