Man Arrested After Gunpoint Scare That Prompted Lockdown: Police

ABERDEEN, MD — An area in Aberdeen was on alert Friday after police said a man pointed a weapon at woman Friday afternoon while she was playing with a child. Nobody was injured, according to police, who later reported a man was arrested on firearms-related charges.

Weapons, including a handgun with the serial number obliterated, were recovered from a home associated with the suspect, authorities said Friday evening.

While the Aberdeen Police Department said the suspect remained at large before 8 p.m. on Friday, May 17, authorities later reported one person was arrested based on the search of the residence.

Maurice Antoine Allen, 30, of the 300 block of Center Deen Avenue, was arrested Friday night on firearms-related offenses as a result of a handgun recovered handgun during the execution of the search warrant.

"It is unclear if Mr. Allen was directly involved in the original complaint," the Aberdeen Police Department said in a statement on Sunday, May 19. "The investigation remains active."

Officers responded to the 300 block of Center Deen Avenue before at 12:56 p.m. on Friday, May 17, for a 911 call from a woman who alleged a man pointed a gun at her while she was playing with a child. He had gone into a residence and when he came outside, he pointed the gun at her head, police said, based on the report.

Law enforcement officers set up a perimeter and since it was unclear whether the man was in the house or if he left, they locked down the neighborhood and said they took a tactical approach to find the man.

Officers said that they were in the 300 block of Center Deen Avenue before 1:55 p.m. after one person brandished a weapon at another outside a residence.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office and Havre de Grace Police Department assisted Aberdeen officers in the response.

People were told to avoid the area until 6:20 p.m., at which point residents were told they could resume normal activities.

Officials said the Harford County Sheriff's Office obtained a search warrant for the residence, where a handgun was found.
