Flood Warning Extended After Rainfall In Harford County

Weather officials said 3 to 5 inches of rain had fallen Sunday evening, with flooding possible.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD - After 3 to 5 inches of rain fell Sunday evening in Harford County, the National Weather Service has extended a flood warning for the area until 7 a.m. on Monday, July 24.

Havre de Grace experienced some high water as well but as of 8:30 p.m., the Havre de Grace Police Department reported all roads were open.

Harford County was previously under a flood warning until 11 p.m. on Sunday. After Doppler radar showed heavy rain that will lead to flooding at 12:52 a.m., the National Weather Service extended the flood warning until 7 a.m. on Monday, July 24.

There were 3 to 5 inches of rain that had fallen across the county, authorities said Sunday afternoon.

Streams were high, and 1 to 2 inches of additional rain were in the forecast.

The National Weather Service originally issued a flood warning after 2 to 4 inches of rain fell as of 9:05 p.m., and stream levels were still rising.

Authorities are asking people to avoid the following areas in Aberdeen:

  • US 40 at West Bel Air Avenue
  • US 40 between MD 22 and Robinhood Road
  • US 40 at Beards Hill Road
  • 900 Edmund Street

"There may be other areas of potential danger so please, if you see standing water, do not proceed," the Aberdeen Police Department said in a statement.

PREVIOUS REPORT - Due to dangerously high water, the Aberdeen Police Department is asking people to avoid certain areas.

Harford County is under a flash flood warning until 8:15 p.m. on Sunday. The National Weather Service issued the warning after 3 inches of rain had fallen by 5:20 p.m., with additional precipitation expected.

As of 6 p.m., emergency management was reporting that multiple roads were closed in Aberdeen and 3.5 inches of rain had fallen, with 1 more inch possible, weather officials advised.

Authorities are asking people to avoid the following areas in Aberdeen and Havre de Grace due to high water:

  • US 40 at West Bel Air Avenue
  • US 40 between MD 22 and Robinhood Road
  • US 40 at Beards Hill Road
  • 900 Edmund Street
  • Revolution Street
  • Juniata Street
  • Superior Street
  • Lewis Lane at Revolution Street

"There may be other areas of potential danger so please, if you see standing water, do not proceed," the Aberdeen Police Department said in a statement.
