Instagram Message Threatened Shooting At Aberdeen Middle: Police

The middle school in Aberdeen was placed on a modified lockdown during the police investigation.

ABERDEEN, MD — Police said that a threat on social media resulted in a modified lockdown at Aberdeen Middle School Tuesday morning. The threat was deemed not credible, but authorities are interested in hearing from anyone who may have information regarding the sender.

Before 7:30 a.m., the Aberdeen Police Department was alerted to a threat of a shooting at Aberdeen Middle School. The threatening Instagram message was sent to several students using a social media app called Sarahah, police said.

The app, which is based in another country, can be linked to an Instagram account, police said. The person who sent the message was unknown, according to officials.

As a precaution, officials said Aberdeen Middle School was placed on a modified lockdown. During a modified lockdown, students must remain in the building, with no outside activities, and visitors may not enter.

"After exhausting all means, this threat was determined to be non-credible," the Aberdeen Police Department reported Tuesday afternoon.
