Aberdeen, Maryland, December 16, -- Donning festive bow ties, the Men of the Iota Nu Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. collected toys, games and bikes for the local Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots. 2016 marks the 69th year of the toy drive. The Harford County Omega Men have generously joined the Marine Corps’ efforts for the past eight years by hosting an annual Toy Drive and Bow Tie Social. The December 16, 2016 event was part of the organization’s community service and outreach programming. It was held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Aberdeen where 20 members of the fraternity and their guests, and friends gathered.
The toy drive ended on December 17, 2016. While the Marine Corps reported 2016 as a down year for Toys for Tots, the Iota Nu Chapter exceeded its toy campaign goal. The Iota Nu Chapter was able to provide over 400 gifts for children who might not have otherwise had toys for the holiday season.
Toys for Tots is just one of many charities supported by the Iota Nu Chapter, a graduate affiliate of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Among our altruistic efforts are the following: Fatherhood and Mentoring Initiative, Health Fair and Blood Drive, Habitat for Humanity, WeCancerve Movement, and American Diabetes Association. The Iota Nu Chapter is also dedicated to providing scholarships for Harford County college-bound students. Their next social event, slated for February 18, 2017, is a Mardi Gras ball where the proceeds will support the scholarship program.
