Young couple's home uninhabitable from Friday's flood near RT 136

Three adults and two K-9 companions lose house to Friday's Flash Flood off RT. 136 on their one year anniversary of the home's purchase

Saturday, September 1st should have been a day for a young Harford County couple, Lisa McPherson and Brady Smith, to celebrate the one year anniversary of purchasing their first home together. Instead, they spent the day gutting that home and hauling their ruined belongings to the county dump.

The catastrophic flash floods off route 136 in Harford County, Maryland the night before drastically changed the young couple’s life. The weather event became so severe that County Executive, Barry Glassman, declared a state of emergency as bridges were washed away and roads closed. Less than a mile away, two people got caught in the rushing water and were swept away to their death. This intense rainfall flooded into the hour reaching over a foot high within minutes. Fortunately, someone was home to let the dogs out of their crates otherwise they may have drowned.

The couple had recently invested in the property putting up a fence for their two dogs and paving the driveway. The house that they put so much work into is now uninhabitable and a health concern in its current state. McPherson, a teacher in a Harford County Public School, will begin a school year with this tragedy happening just days before the first day.

While friends and family have been there to assist the couple as they try to salvage what is left of their home, the three people and two dogs that lived there are without a home. They don’t yet know if they can reconstruct or will need to abandon the house. The damages are not covered by their insurance, so they have started a Go Fund Me: https://www.gofundme.com/flood-relief-for-lisa-and-brady

If you are able to help this couple as they begin to rebuild their life, it would be greatly appreciated.
