Alli previously worked as chief clerk on the House Education and Labor Committee, and has served in key House roles for nearly two decades, according to Pelosi’s office.

“She is known and respected by Members and staff on both sides of the aisle for her great experience, dedication and integrity,” Pelosi said in a statement.

The appointment was announced after the retirement of former reading clerk Joe Novotny, who left the House after more than a decade as the chamber’s voice.

“I am proud that a Prince Georgian will now be the voice of the House, heard by millions of Americans on C-SPAN as she plays a critical role in House procedure,” U.S. House Majority Leader Rep. Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) said in a statement. “For years, Members on the Education and Labor Committee have gotten to know Tylease well, relying on her to ensure that the important business of that committee can proceed smoothly as it works to bring opportunity to American students, teachers, workers, and communities. I look forward to welcoming her to the House Floor.”
