Christmas Crash On Eastern Shore: Police Say 1 Killed, 1 Injured

A woman died, a boy was flown to the hospital and a German shepherd is missing after a Christmas Day crash, Maryland State Police said.

SOMERSET COUNTY, MD — A woman died, a 10-year-old boy was injured and a dog is missing after a crash Christmas Day on the Eastern Shore, according to Maryland State Police. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, officials reported on Wednesday, Dec. 26.

Rebecca Kleinert, 47, of Levittown, New York, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on US 13 at Quail Lane, police said.

She was a passenger in the 2012 Toyota RAV 4 that went off the road and into a ditch, where it hit a tree and flipped over around 1:29 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 25, according to officials.

Police said two people were trapped and had to be rescued by first responders: Richard Kleinert, who had been driving, and a 10-year-old boy in the back seat. Officials said the boy was flown to Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment of injuries from the crash.

There was a 1-year-old German shepherd in the vehicle who has not been located. Anyone who finds the dog is asked to call the Princess Anne Barrack of Maryland State Police at 443-260-3700.

Witnesses are also asked to contact the barrack. An advanced crash investigator from Maryland State Police is assisting with the probe.
