Extra MD Troopers Looking For Drunk Drivers July 4 Weekend

Starting Thursday, troopers across Maryland will look for drunk drivers, aggressive drivers, speeders and distracted drivers.

MARYLAND — State troopers will be out in full force this holiday weekend searching for impaired, distracted and aggressive drivers. Because the Fourth of July falls on a Saturday this year, the holiday likely will be a three-day weekend for many. Therefore, Maryland state troopers will be employing a variety of initiatives to keep traffic flowing smoothly, respond to highway incidents as quickly as possible and enforce violations.

Starting Thursday, troopers from each of the 23 Maryland State Police barracks will focus on impaired driving, aggressive driving, speeding, distracted driving and other violations. Additional troopers will be working overtime assignments funded by highway safety grants from the Maryland Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.

Troopers will be working closely with both local law enforcement and personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration who will provide help arranging detours at crash sites and conducting courtesy patrols to assist motorists. Troopers from the state police impaired driving reduction effort, or SPIDRE Team, will be working through the weekend. They will focus predominantly on locating and arresting impaired drivers.
