Fire At UPS Center In Frederick Burns Trucks, Center, Packages

Firefighters needed about 45 minutes to bring the inferno under control

FREDERICK, MD — A fire late Monday at a UPS center in Frederick scorched numerous packages, 10 trucks and a package loading structure, news outlets reported.

The number of packages ruined — some of which were likely holiday gifts — remains undetermined.

Frederick County Fire Department spokesman Kevin Fox said the fire was reported about 11:40 p.m. Monday, WUSA-TV reported.

Fox said firefighters needed about 45 minutes to bring the inferno under control. Most of the damage was to the outside of the building because a sprinkler system activated inside the main building, he said.

The Fire Marshal is investigating the fire's cause.

A representative for UPS said the company is working to identify and notify shippers of the damaged packages, as well as reroute packages that would have gone out on the damaged trucks.
