LA PLATA, MD — A La Plata man shot and killed his 3-year-old daughter before turning the gun on himself at a park Sunday evening, authorities announced.
The Charles County Sheriff’s office said Brian Duncan Davis, 33, and Maddie Sabre Davis, 3, were found at Gilbert Run Park at 13140 Charles St. at about 7:35 p.m.
Officers located the father and daughter deceased inside a pickup truck.

Davis is the girl’s biological father, police said. He had court-ordered visitation rights with her and was supposed to return her home at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Family members began to search for the two after Davis didn't arrive home and couldn't be contacted. Family located his truck at the park and called police.

Investigation showed Davis shot and killed Maddie and then shot and killed himself, police said. A handgun was recovered inside the truck.
“It’s early in the investigation,” Diane Richardson, a spokeswoman with the sheriff’s office, told WTOP. “There are so many questions. We don’t have all the answers, and I imagine as the investigation moves forward, we might be able to find out more answers as to what compelled him to do this.”
