MD $1 Million Winner As $1B Mega Millions Jackpot Is Won
A Maryland player has won $1 million even though Friday's $1 billion Mega Millions jackpot was won in another state.

MARYLAND – One $1 million ticket was sold in Maryland on Friday while the $1 billion Mega Millions jackpot was won by a player in Michigan.
Friday night's Mega Millions drawing again produced millions of winning tickets, including a single lucky jackpot ticket purchased at a Kroger store in the Detroit suburb of Novi. That was the only ticket to match all six numbers drawn on Jan. 22 – the white balls 4, 26, 42, 50 and 60, plus the gold Mega Ball 24.
In Maryland, there was one second-tier prizewinning ticket sold for the Friday drawing that matched five of the five white balls drawn, winning the $1 million prize. The ticket was purchased at Cranberry Liquors in Westminster.

The liquor store at 405 North Center Street in Westminster sold a $1 million ticket that matches all of the first five numbers drawn on Friday but it did not match the Mega Ball number of 24. Lottery officials said in a news release that the winner should sign the back of the ticket immediately and put it in a safe location.
Winners typically get 182 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes. However, the Lottery has temporarily extended claiming deadlines due to Maryland’s COVID-19 state of emergency.
The $1 million winner can claim the prize by mail or in person by appointment at the Lottery headquarters’ Customer Resource Center, 1800 Washington Blvd. in Baltimore.

Another four Maryland Lottery players won $10,000 prizes in the Jan. 22 Mega Millions drawing.
Tickets for the third-tier prizes of $10,000 were sold at:
- Holiday Liquors, 3385 Leonardtown Road in Waldorf
- Royal Farms #174, 1261 Liberty Road in Sykesville
- 7-Eleven #11548, 1350 Odenton Road in Odenton
- 7-Eleven #28823, 10524 Connecticut Avenue in Kensington
Friday's billion-dollar prize was the second-largest in Mega Millions history and third-largest in U.S. lottery history, trailing only the $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot in January 2016 and the $1.537 billion Mega Millions jackpot in October 2018, according to the Maryland Lottery. The cash option for the Jan. 22 Mega Millions drawing was $739.6 million before taxes.
