2 Escape Burning Plane After Crash In Berlin: Police

A small plane crashed after takeoff from the airport in Ocean City, Maryland State Police said. Two people escaped the burning aircraft.

BERLIN, MD — A small plane with two occupants crashed shortly after takeoff Friday morning on the Eastern Shore, according to Maryland State Police. The aircraft had left from Ocean City Municipal Airport and crashed in Berlin, police said.

The plane crash was reported at 9:17 a.m., officials reported. Authorities said the plane was a Beechcraft Debonair that crashed at the Assateague Greens Golf Center, located on the 9000 block of Stephen Decatur Highway in Berlin. The plane had taken off a short time earlier from Ocean City Municipal Airport in Berlin.

The occupants of the aircraft, Guerrino Mascelli and Mary Mascelli, both 60, and from Berlin, escaped the plane, which caught fire. Guerrino Mascelli was flown to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, while Mary Mascelli was taken by ambulance to the same hospital for treatment.

No one on the ground was injured as a result of the crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
