Annapolis Arts Week Will Spotlight Painters, Musicians, Actors

Annapolis Arts Week starts this Sunday. Residents can enjoy painting demonstrations, live music and theatrical performances.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Annapolis Arts Week is almost here. Next week's festival will be one of the first major events of the summer. Residents can expect downtown exhibits and performances.

Patch partners with several local organizations to bring you their latest news. This guest contribution comes from the Annapolis Arts District. Here's what Executive Director Erik Evans wrote about Annapolis Arts Arts Week:

"Annapolis Arts Week is from June 6th to 12th as Annapolis kicks off its summer arts schedule. There is a wide variety of events including live music, theater, ... art exhibits, and artist demonstrations that take place both indoors and outdoors throughout next week in Annapolis.

“These events give you a fun opportunity to get out of the house and to enjoy the arts in Annapolis,” says Erik Evans Executive Director of the Annapolis Arts District.

With multiple events, each day here are some of each day's highlights.

Paint Annapolis starts Sunday, June 6th and runs through Friday. During the week you can watch dozens of Plein Air painters with easels set up throughout downtown Annapolis painting their favorite views. On Friday you can view and purchase the completed artworks at the Paint Annapolis Exhibition.

First Sunday Arts Festival returns with about 70 artisans as the festival starts expanding onto the first two blocks of West Street on June 6th. You can shop directly from artisans that will be selling paintings, photography, jewelry, pottery, glass art, woodworking, home accessories and more.

Monday, June 7th is Classic Country: Live in the Cabaret being performed at the Annapolis Shakespeare Company the Classic Theatre of Maryland. Let them transport you to the sounds from the Grand Ole Opry.

Tuesday evening you can enjoy music at 49 West Coffeehouse Gallery and Wine Bar by Unified Jazz Ensemble. This group has had a weekly jazz performance here for over 20 years. While you are here check out the art exhibit hanging in the café.

Wednesday evening head to West Street for Dinner Under the Stars. This evening will have live music by Ryan Kozel from 6:30pm to 9:30pm, and you are sure to find Plein Air painters from Paint Annapolis painting the diners and musicians, all enjoying the evening. You will also find local artists outside of Gallery 57 West demonstrating pottery and jewelry making.

Thursday, June 10th the Colonial Players present I Love You Because. This new musical comedy explores the rules and nuisances of dating and learning how to love someone, not in spite of their differences, but because of them.

Friday kicks off the Summer Beach Concert Series at MC3’s Stage One. Relax on the lawn and enjoy live music from Tony Spencer and the Sunset Band.

On Saturday head over to ArtFarm where you can learn Turkish marbling, Ukrainian egg decorating, or attend a batik workshop or doodling workshop.
