Annapolis Named One Of Most Charming Small Cities In U.S.

A travel magazine named Annapolis one of the most charming small cities in the country. Here's what impressed the voters.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — TravelMag, an international tourism website, named Annapolis one of the 30 most charming cities in the United States on March 29. The publication pointed to the town's nautical and historical charm.

Writer Paul Stafford noted that the Maryland State House is the oldest capitol in the country. He also appreciated that Maryland served as the nation's capital from 1783 to 1784.

"Annapolis is a beautiful, leafy small city," Stafford wrote in the story. "Today you can explore the colonial architecture and rich history, or take a sailing trip in the bay."

TravelMag compiled the list by asking more than 500 travel writers, bloggers, photographers and industry professionals to name five cities with the most overall appeal. The towns had to be spread across at least three states and have 10,000 to 250,000 residents. About 39,223 people call Annapolis home.

The cities with the most votes made the top 30, which is not ranked in any particular order. The full list is available here. Annapolis was the only Maryland town to make the cut.
