Anne Arundel Firefighters Douse 3 Thanksgiving Weekend Blazes

Firefighters knocked down fires at three dwellings during Thanksgiving weekend, says the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

MILERSVILLE, MD — During the long Thanksgiving weekend, Anne Arundel County firefighters put out blazes in a single-family home in Cape St. Claire, a trailer home in Lothian and a townhouse in Glen Burnie. One resident suffered minor burns in the Glen Burnie fire, according to the county's Fire Department, but no other injuries were reported.

Cape St. Claire: At 6:52 a.m. Friday, firefighters rushed to the scene of a kitchen fire in a single-family home in the 1200 block of Hilltop Drive. They quickly extinguished the blaze in the two-story house, the department said.

The firefighters determined the kitchen fire to be accidental, related to unattended cooking. Damages to the house are estimated at $35,000.

Two adults and three children were displaced by the fire and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Lothian: At 6:25 p.m. Friday, several callers to 911 alerted the Fire Department to a blaze in the 100 block of Mary Lou Drive. Firefighters arriving at the scene saw flames coming from the porch and interior of a single-wide mobile home, the department said.

Twenty-nine firefighters from Anne Arundel, Calvert and Prince George’s counties brought the fire under control in about 15 minutes, the Anne Arundel department said. Two occupants of the mobile home were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

The Fire Department's Explosives Investigation Unit determined that the cause of the fire was accidental, stemming from an electrical malfunction on the porch. Damages are estimated at $20,000.

Glen Burnie: At 1:01 p.m. Sunday, firefighters responded to a blaze at a townhouse in the 8100 block of Kramer Court. They quickly extinguished the fire in a second-floor bedroom.

A laptop computer sitting on a mattress in the bedroom ignited the fire, which was determined to be accidental, the fire department said. Two adults and four children were displaced by the fire and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

One resident sustained minor burns and was treated at the scene by paramedics, but did not need to be taken to a hospital, the fire department said. Damage to the townhouse is estimated at about $5,000.
