Anne Arundel Fires Damage Garage, Two Vacant Homes

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Anne Arundel County firefighters were busy over the weekend, putting out a garage fire early Friday in Glen Burnie and dousing blazes at two vacant homes on Saturday. The fire department is working to determine the causes of the three fires.
At 3:47 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, firefighters responded to the report of a garage fire in the 900 block of Point Pleasant Road, according to the fire department.
Upon arrival, they found that flames were consuming the garage, which was starting to collapse. The fire also was spreading into the single-family house attached to the garage.

The firefighters quickly stopped the flames from spreading into the house, and brought the fire in the garage under control in about 50 minutes, the fire department said.
Smoke alarms alerted the home's lone occupant to the fire, and he escaped without serious injuries. Paramedics treated the unidentified man at the scene and took him to the Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie with minor injuries, the fire department said.

The department's Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit went to the scene to determine the cause of the fire. The house's occupant was displaced, and there was no estimate available of the dollar amount of the loss caused by the blaze, the fire department said.
Fires In Vacant Houses
The firefighters also put out blazes Saturday at vacant single-family homes in Hanover and Annapolis. No injuries were reported, and the department said it's working to determine the cause of each fire.
Firefighters responded at 2:07 a.m. Jan. 5 to a blaze reported at an unoccupied two-story house at 1335 Dorsey Road in Hanover. It caused about $10,000 in damage to the structure, the department said.
Personnel from the fire departments at the U.S. Naval Academy and BWI Marshall Airport also fought the fire, according to the Anne Arundel department.
At 6:46 p.m., firefighters rushed to a house at 927 Bay Ridge Road in the Annapolis area, where they saw flames and heavy smoke pouring from the structure.
They called in help from the Annapolis Fire Department and brought the blaze under control in about 20 minutes, according to the Anne Arundel department.
