Baltimore II Docks in Annapolis for Maryland Day

America's Star-Spangled Ambassador will offer free tours deck tours following a ceremony commemorating the holiday.

ANNAPOLIS, MD--Pride of Baltimore II, America’s Star-Spangled Ambassador, will celebrate Maryland Day in Annapolis tomorrow, March 25, according to a news release.

Events begin at 11:30 a.m. on the Annapolis City Dock, where Pride II will be stationed. At this time, Lieutenant Governor Boyd Rutherford will take a tour of the vessel and the public is encouraged to gather at the dock.

At 11:50 a.m., executive director of Pride of Baltimore, Inc., Rick Scott, will provide the opening remarks. Mr. Scott will be joined by Park Ranger Scott Sheads of Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine.

Mr. Scott and Mr. Sheads will announce a special educational partnership with the National Park Service’s Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail. This partnership will launch in May, with plans to educate hundreds of students throughout the spring and fall seasons.

“The legacy of the War of 1812 in Maryland lives on through both the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail and Pride of Baltimore II,” remarks Executive Director Rick Scott. “We look forward to educating hundreds of school children about the history of the Chesapeake Bay through this innovative partnership with the National Park Service.”

Following Mr. Scott and Mr. Sheads, President of the Anne Arundel County Council Derek Fink, will provide remarks on behalf of Annapolis and introduce Boyd Rutherford, Lieutenant Governor.

At 12:30 p.m., the Fort McHenry Fife and Drum Corps will play, accompanied by Fort Rangers. Together, they will unfurl the American flag. Guests and Maryland officials are asked to join in the singing of both the national anthem and “Maryland, My Maryland.”

Following the ceremony, guests are welcome to board Pride II for free deck tours until 4 p.m. Crew will be available to answer questions about the ship, Baltimore Clippers, and privateering. Deck tours are free and open to the public.
