ANNAPOLIS, MD — Barbara Mead Olson, 94, of Annapolis and previously of Bowie, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017 due to complications from a stroke. Barbara was born on June 9, 1922 to the late Arthur and Gertrude Mead in Cambridge, MA. She married the late Robert Lennart Olson in 1945 and pursued a career as a stay-at-home mom, raising their five children.

Barbara spent time volunteering for Meals-on-Wheels and the AAMC Clothes Box. She was a member of the FBI Wives Group and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Bowie. Barbara enjoyed traveling, bowling, watching sports, especially the Redskins, and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was predeceased by her daughter, Judy Lynn Olson. She is survived by four children, Susan Olson Robertshaw of Annapolis, Thomas Mead Olson of Mebane, NC, John Eric Olson of Silver Spring and Patricia Olson McLane of Dunkirk; a sister, Marjorie Mead Many of Rochester, NH; eight grandchildren, Silas Robertshaw, Robert, Luke, Sarah, and Meryl Olson, Megan Ferguson, and Lillian and Eliza McLane; and one great-granddaughter, Alana Ferguson.

Friends are invited to celebrate Barbara's life on Saturday, May 6, from 11 am until her memorial service begins at noon at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. A service and interment will be planned at a later date at Trinity Episcopal Church in Ossining, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any breast cancer organization, or the Anne Arundel Medical Center Foundation, Belcher Pavilion, 200 Medical Parkway STE 604, Annapolis, MD 21401.
