Bay Ridge Gets Dedicated Bike Lanes
In August, an Annapolis High coach was killed while biking along Riva Road. The death drove online discussion of road conditions for cyclists.
Cyclists along Bay Ridge Avenue will have a little more room to work with after the city completed work on dedicated bike lanes.
In making the improvements, the city is taking its first steps in the Bicycle Master Plan, first drafted in 2011 to enhance bike options throughout Annapolis.
Mayor Josh Cohen said making Annapolis more bicycle-friendly has been a priority of his.
“The recent tragic bicycle fatalities in the county only underscore the imperative to make bicycling safe and convenient not just for avid bicyclists, but for regular families who want to be able to get around town without getting in their cars," Cohen said.

A Patch blog post written by Jim Titus spawned a letter writing campaign on the Bike Maryland website, urging individuals to contact the state's attorney's office and encourage it to pursue homicide charges against the driver.Â
