Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival Rescheduled To 2021 Due To Virus
Purchased tickets for the 2020 event will be honored for next year's festival or a refund can be issued for those requesting one.
ANNAPOLIS, MD — The Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival originally planned for May 16-17 this year at Sandy Point State Park has been rescheduled for May 22-23, 2021, due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic. Organizers Don Hooker and his daughter Sarah Petska shared in an email that individuals who already purchased tickets can request a refund by contacting Eventbrite or can use the tickets for the 2021 festival. They also intend to have as close to the same lineup next year as they did for the 2020 festival.
"Although we are very disappointed to push the festival out a year, we know it is the right thing to do. This is certainly a unique time in our world, but it is not the first. My generation was trained to hide under our desks in the event of a nuclear war during the Cold War. Many of my parents' generation lived, suffered and died during World War II. My grandparents suffered through the Great Depression. Their parents lived through the Spanish Flu outbreak. Those generations and the country survived those catastrophic events. I believe it brought out the best of us and the best in us. We look back on their heroism and determination with admiration. They survived and we will survive this together," they said.
The 2019 Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival was canceled with plans to bring back the highly anticipated event in 2020. The first festival was held in 1998 and quickly gained recognition as a premier blues festival on a global level.
