ANNAPOLIS, MD — Annapolis Elementary School students are working to save the Chesapeake Bay, the Capital Gazette reported.

Journalist Rachael Pacella noted that archeologists are doing a mandatory dig next to the school before the city installs an anti-flooding pump. That excavation revealed heaps of old oyster shells, Pacella added.

The Capital mentioned that students will send those shells to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation where they will help grow new oysters. The foundation will then replant the young oysters to filter bay water and create a marine habitat, the news outlet concluded.
