Fall Foliage Peak Map, Plus MD Festivals For Oct. 26-27
If you're touring fall foliage in Maryland, this tool can help you map it out. Plus fall festivals for the weekend of Oct. 26 and 27.

MARYLAND — Colors are starting to pop in leaves across more of Maryland and winding down in the western counties. Marylanders in the Baltimore/DC region should find red and gold tones in the woods in Frederick County, while Anne Arundel County is still another week or two away from peak colors, said the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
“I would say we are just passing peak in Garrett County," said DNR forester Becky Wilson. "The colors that did come this year came later than typically, so there are many places where the color still pops in the sun and the weather has been spot on perfect.”
Colder temperatures have helped bring on some vibrant colors in Allegany County, although project forester Dan Hedderick said he does not believe they have peaked yet.

“We have at least one more colorful weekend before we declare ourselves past peak,” said Ranger Julia Musselwhite from Rocky Gap State Park in Allegany County. “The trees along the shoreline of Lake Habeeb are especially bright, and visitors will have plenty of photographic opportunities throughout the weekend and hopefully into next week.”
Ranger Mark Spurrier, manager of Cunningham Falls and Gambrill state parks, said colors are turning fast but not lasting long, so leaf-peepers need to visit Frederick County before they’re gone.

Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis is getting some oranges and reds this week.
“The red maples and oaks are beginning to show signs of color change this week and the dominant green color is beginning to fade. I’m thinking Anne Arundel County is a week or two away from some very nice fall colors,” says Justin Arseneault, Forest Service project manager.
Cedarville State Forest in Prince George’s County is showing emergent colors of red, orange and yellow.
The Fall Foliage Prediction Map, found on the Smoky Mountain National Park website, includes predictions not just for the Smokies, which rise above the Tennessee-North Carolina border, but for all 50 states.
