UPDATE: Fire in Arundel on the Bay Leaves One Dead

Fire officials have not yet released the name of the female victim.

UPDATE: (5:18 p.m.) A two-alarm fire in Arundel on the Bay left one female victim dead Sunday morning, fire officials said.

The name and the age of the victim had not yet been released as of 2:30 p.m. Sunday, pending positive identification, notification of the family and an autopsy.

According to a press release from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, firefighters responded to a reported fire in the 3400 block of Newport Avenue in Annapolis at about 10 a.m. Sunday.

Firefighters saw flames coming through the roof of a two-story single family house and neighbors told them they had not seen the occupant of the home.

Firefighters requested a second-alarm and began to search for the occupant and attack the fire from the inside. During the search, firefighters found a female of unknown age who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

It took more than 50 firefighters from the county, Annapolis and the Naval Academy about 40 minutes to bring the fire under control. The fire originated inside the house and caused more than $200,000 in damages, but the exact cause remains under investigation.

This is the second fatal fire in the county in about eight days. Last Sunday, an . Fire officials said that house was not equipped with smoke detectors.

It is unclear if there were any operable smoke detectors in Sunday's fatal fire in Annapolis; however, the investigation into the incident is continuing, according to the release.
