Former Students Allege Sexual Abuse At Annapolis School: Report

Seven women who attended the private Key School in Annapolis have alleged sexual abuse there in the 1970s, says Washington Post.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A private school in Annapolis has launched an investigation into reports of sexual abuse perpetrated by teachers decades ago, according to a media report. Several women who are former students at the Key School told the Washington Post "they were groomed and sexually abused by teachers in the 1970s," the Post reported Saturday.

A pair of Baltimore lawyers is leading the investigation, the Post reported. The head of Key School said that a review of the allegations showed that previous school officials failed to protect students from sexual abuse.

The Key School serves students from prekindergarten through 12th grade. Seven women in their 50s and 60s, who are former students, have come forward with the allegations, the Post said.

Several of the accused teachers are dead or incapacitated, the Post reported, and it's unclear whether others could be prosecuted.

A former Key headmaster, who led the school in the 1970s, told the Post he fired “two, maybe three” teachers for allegations of sexual activity with students. "I guess I kind of lost control of the faculty at some point,” he said.
