Funeral Services Announced For Del. Ted Sophocleus Of Linthicum

The body of Delegate Ted Sophocleus will lie in state at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation in Baltimore before his funeral.

The body of Delegate Ted Sophocleus will lie in state Friday at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation in Baltimore before his funeral. He died June 8 at a hospital in Baltimore, with his family at his side.

"We thank him for his service to all of the residents of Anne Arundel County over the past 35 years as a County Councilman and State Delegate," said Maryland Republican Party Chairman Dirk Haire in a statement. "Ted was one of the nicest people in Annapolis and was able to put politics aside to do what was right for his constituents. We extend our condolences to his wife Alice, his children and grandchildren, and all of his friends and family at this sad time."

Obituary for Theodore "Ted" Sophocleus

Theodore “Ted” John Sophocleus, 79 of Linthicum, loving husband, father, grandfather, pharmacist owner of Ted’s Pharmacy in Linthicum and a dedicated public servant passed away peacefully with family at his side on June 8, 2018. Ted was born on May 28, 1939 in Baltimore to the late John and Despina Sophocleus.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Alice Sophocleus (nee Over); his children, Evangeline Weese (Franklin), Elena Thomas (Steven); his grandchildren, Ronald Taylor (Katelyn); Nicholas Smith, Tristan Furrow, Despina and Christian Thomas; his brothers, Dr. Gregory Sophocleus; Sophoclis Sophocleus (Ann). He is also survived by three nieces, two nephews, four great nieces and four great nephews.

Ted was preceded in death by his daughter, Dina Furrow; and his sister-in-law, Electra Sophocleus.

The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave. SW (at Crain Hwy) on Wednesday, June 13, from 4-8 pm and Thursday, June 14, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, a Trisagion Service will be held at 7:30 pm. Mr. Sophocleus will Lie-in-State at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, 24 W. Preston St., Baltimore, MD 21201, on Friday from 10:30-11 a.m., at which time the funeral service will begin. Interment will be at the Greek Orthodox Cemetery in Woodlawn.
