Good News for Annapolis Mall Pedestrians: Improvements are in the Works

Within two years, improvements are expected around the intersection of Bestgate Road, Housley Road and Crownsville Road.

Pedestrian walkways around the Annapolis Mall area will soon be getting some much-needed safety upgrades, after a County Councilman's request for upgrades was approved.

Within two years, improvements are expected around the intersection of Bestgate Road, Housley Road and Crownsville Road. These will include pedestrian signals and crosswalks at the west, south and east portions of the intersection.

Improvements are also planned at the intersection of Crownsville Road and MD 450, to include the installation of pedestrian signals on the north, east, and west legs.

After being asked by his constituents, Anne Arundel Councilman Chris Trumbauer had requested these improvements in 2012 through the State Highway Administration, and word spread this week that the Office of Traffic and Safety had greenlit the work.

"I am pleased to see the safety concerns at these intersections being addressed. Thanks to State Highway Administration and special thanks to my constituents who worked with us to get these improvements approved," Trumbauer said.

Implementing the improvements should take about 18 months, according to an email from the Office of Traffic and Safety, but that is contingent on securing the right-of-way.
