Heavy Rains Flood Downtown Annapolis Streets

Flooding on Monday morning closes several streets in downtown Annapolis, say authorities.

UPDATE — Shortly before 11 a.m., the Annapolis Office of Emergency Management announced that Compromise Street had been reopened to two-way traffic, but Dock and Newnan streets remained closed.

Also, authorities have placed wind restrictions on traffic crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. House trailers, empty box trailers or any vehicle that cannot safely cross the bridge will be prohibited from that portion of U.S. 50, radio station WTOP reported.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Heavy rains overnight caused flooding early Monday morning on several streets in downtown Annapolis, according to authorities. At 7 a.m., the Annapolis Office of Emergency Management reported that Dock Street and Newman Street were closed due to high waters, and Compromise Street was reduced to one lane of traffic.

The office cautioned motorists to drive carefully in the area.

At about 7 a.m., the city's Police Department said that the flood waters were starting to recede, but warned drivers to expect delays on Compromise Street, and to avoid the road until it completely reopened.
