Hogan Visits Navy Stadium Mass Vaccination Site

Gov. Larry Hogan toured the new Navy Stadium mass vaccination site, touting its daily capacity. More than half of all adults have the shot.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Last Friday, Gov. Larry Hogan toured the new mass vaccination site at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis. The facility opened last Thursday, touting a daily capacity of 1,500 inoculations.

Nearly 82 percent of all Marylanders have taken at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine. About 54 percent of all adults have gotten at least one shot.

A total of 1,621,036 Marylanders are fully immunized. That's almost 27 percent of the state.

Maryland announced on Saturday that Bloomberg rated the state as one of the best at vaccinating its minority populations. The press release mentioned that Maryland ranks:

  • Third in immunizing its Black residents
  • Ninth in immunizing its Asian residents
  • 12th in immunizing its Hispanic residents

These officials joined Hogan for Friday's visit:

  • Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley
  • Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman
  • Anne Arundel County Fire Chief Trisha Wolford
  • Anne Arundel County Health Officer Dr. Nilesh Kalyanaraman
  • Maryland Department of Health Secretary Dennis Schrader
  • Maryland National Guard Brigadier General Janeen Birckhead, who leads the Maryland Vaccine Equity Task Force
  • Superintendent of the United States Naval Academy Vice Admiral Sean Buck

"They say that if you build it they will come," Pittman tweeted. "This collaboration among partners at every level of government is built, so please, come and get vaccinated."

Other Mass Vaccination Sites

The state has 10 other active mass vaccination sites located at:

  • The Baltimore Convention Center
  • Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium
  • Upper Marlboro's Six Flags America
  • Waldorf's Regency Furniture Stadium
  • Salisbury's Wicomico Youth & Civic Center
  • The former Wolf Furniture store in the Hagerstown Premium Outlets
  • The Timonium Fairgrounds
  • Germantown's campus of Montgomery College
  • Greenbelt Station
  • Frederick Community College

Two more high-volume facilities will open this week at:

  • The Mall in Columbia
  • Aberdeen's Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium

Anybody 16 and up can now preregister for an appointment at any of these locations by visiting covidvax.maryland.gov or calling 1-855-MD-GOVAX (1-855-634-6829).

Residents in earlier stages of inoculation, like front-line workers and at-risk Marylanders, will still take precedence. That means locals may have to wait a bit for a timeslot.
