Homeless Shelter Wins $20K Grant To Feed Hungry Residents

ANNAPOLIS, MD — The Light House Homeless Prevention Support Center won a $20,000 grant to fight food insecurity. The Annapolis shelter announced the news on April 19, noting that the money came from the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County.

Since the coronavirus pandemic began, the organization has served 210 percent more households through its food initiatives. The Light House distributed 305,000 pounds of food last year to 2,700 homes.

"Keeping up with this significant increase in demand has been extremely challenging," Light House Executive Director Ann Mattson said in a press release. "The much-needed funding ... will help us continue to provide food to our most vulnerable Anne Arundel County residents during this difficult time."

The grant comes from a group of donors that supports local nonprofits. This award is part of their Community Crisis Response Fund.

"CFAAC is proud to continue its long history of grantmaking to The Light House," President and CEO Mary Spencer added in the release. "We are extremely gratified to help sustain the valuable work they are doing to support the homeless and food insecure residents of our community."
