Downtown Annapolis Street Reopens After Hotel Fire

UPDATE — Traffic in downtown Annapolis resumed its normal pattern on Thursday afternoon after the 100 block of West Street was reopened at about 2 p.m. following a fire at the Loews Annapolis Hotel, according to a fire spokesman.

Firefighting units from Annapolis, Anne Arundel County and the U.S. Naval Acadeny responded at 11:37 p.m. to the report of a fire on the fourth floor of the hotel, Annapolis Fire Chief David Stokes said in a statement

The fire crews got the fire under control within 20 minutes of arriving at the hotel, Stokes said. All occupants of the hotel were safely evacuated and there are no reported injuries, according to the Annapolis Fire Department.

City building inspectors were called to the hotel on Thursday afternoon to assess the building's safety. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Traffic is being diverted from West Street as fire trucks remain on the scene, and motorists are instructed to use alternate routes, fire department spokesman Ken White tweeted.

At about 11:30 a.m., the fire department reported heavy smoke coming from the fourth floor of the hotel, at 126 West St., but the fire was brought under control at 12:02 p.m., White tweeted.

All of the occupants of the hotel were evacuated and there were no reported injuries, according to White.
