Marcia Terrell Hawthorne, 81, of Annapolis: Obituary

Obituary and service information from George P. Kalas Funeral Home.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Marcia Terrell Hawthorne, 81, died September 11, 2016. She was a longtime resident of Annapolis, residing in the community of Heritage Harbour, and most recently in Baywoods of Annapolis. Prior to retirement, she lived in Oxon Hill.

Hawthorne was born October 6, 1935, the oldest daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Snyder, of Albany, NY. She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, and friend — a shining light to all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Russ Hawthorne, her daughter, Lizabeth Soares, two grandsons, Karl David Nan, Joshua Soares, and her sister Joanne Whalen. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and daughters Jenny Hawthorne and Terry Hawthorne-Nan.

She held a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland in human relations, and worked at Prince George's Community College in the human relations department as a research assistant. Her biggest love was music- she played piano, loved Chopin, and sang in the chorus at Heritage Harbour, as well as in the Alexandria Singers, and twice performed in the Kennedy Center at Christmastime. She was also a gifted writer, the daughter of a poet, and created beautiful sculptures of her grandchildren. Her favorite thing to say was “isn’t that grand."
