Annapolis was highlighted not just for its aesthetics but also for its atmosphere.

"Rooted in nautical history—the U.S. Naval Academy is based here, and locals love to go out on their boats—Annapolis is a more meditative counterpart to the bustling D.C. area," according to Architectural Digest.

The magazine selected Annapolis as the prettiest town in Maryland months after the travel site Tripping named Annapolis one of the 15 prettiest towns in the U.S.
