ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — County Executive Steuart Pittman cheered the news that a mass vaccination site will soon open in Anne Arundel. Gov. Larry Hogan announced the expansion Tuesday, but he did not release its specific location.

Pittman suggested that the high-volume clinic may be at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. He stopped short of confirming the location, however.

"We began planning logistics for a Navy Stadium vaccination site back in November," Pittman said Tuesday on Facebook. "When the state shifted its dose allocations to state mass vaccination sites, we went to work on a campaign to get the site selected."

"We will make an announcement when a site and opening date are finalized," Gischlar said in an email.

The Anne Arundel County mass immunization site is one of six that will open in April. That will bring the state's total to 12.

The new facilities will open at:

  • The Timonium Fairgrounds in the week of April 5
  • Montgomery College in Germantown in the week of April 5
  • An unnamed Anne Arundel County site in the week of April 12
  • An unnamed Frederick County site in the week of April 12
  • An unnamed Howard County site by the end of April
  • An unnamed Harford County site by the end of April

Maryland's six active high-volume inoculation clinics are located at:

  • The Baltimore Convention Center
  • Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium
  • Upper Marlboro's Six Flags America
  • Waldorf's Regency Furniture Stadium
  • Salisbury's Wicomico Youth & Civic Center
  • The former Wolf Furniture store in the Hagerstown Premium Outlets

"I want to congratulate the many county staff who coordinated the diligent planning and quiet advocacy needed to bring a mass vaccination site to our county," Pittman added. "It was the most effective way to substantially increase the doses available for our residents."

The Maryland Department of Health runs the high-volume clinics. That means any eligible Marylander can preregister for a shot at the Anne Arundel County site when it opens.
