ANNAPOLIS, MD — A midshipman died Tuesday night while on leave from the U.S. Naval Academy, school officials announced. The cause of the student's death is under investigation, a press release noted.

The write-up mentioned that the Brigade of Midshipmen, faculty, staff and coaches learned about the death Wednesday afternoon. The Naval Academy added that it will withhold the midshipman's name for 24 hours after it notifies the student's family. Administrators explained that counseling services are available for the entire college community.

"The Naval Academy is supporting the midshipman’s family, friends, and loved ones during this time of grief," the release said.
