Mighty Oak Falls Onto Home in Annapolis Roads

Saturating Rains and Stormwater Runoff Make Trees Vulnerable

Rains, saturated soil, and stormwater runoff brought down this mighty oak onto a home at 2665 Ogleton Road in Annapolis Roads. There were no reported injuries.

The Charles Abbott Tree Service crew assessed the damage and determined an approach to safely remove the tree. A crane was brought in to assist with the removal.

Large trees abound in Annapolis Roads which was developed in 1926 on the Annapolis Neck Peninsula bordering Lake Ogleton, the Severn River, and the Chesapeake Bay. The community was planned by the Olmstead Brothers in the tradition of Frederick Law Olmstead - the Father of Landscape Architecture who pioneered the use of green and open space in community design and whose numerous high-profile projects include the US Capitol, the US Naval Academy and New York's Central Park.

The property at 2665 Ogleton backs up to Ogleton Woods, one of the few remaining large, old growth woodlands on the Annapolis Neck Peninsula. This 33 acre woodland was purchased by the Annapolis Roads residents and through an agreement with the Maryland Environmental Trust, this conservation easement is now protected from future development.
