Naval Academy Grants Children Wishes with Giving Tree
Each paper angel includes the wishes of a local child in need—and mids, faculty and staff pick one to help out by purchasing gifts.
This week, midshipmen and Naval Academy officials gathered around a holiday tree to help the needy for the 23rd annual Giving Tree celebration.
The sixth company decorated a tree with paper angel ornaments provided by the Salvation Army. Each angel includes the wishes of a local child in need, and mids, faculty and staff pick one to help out by purchasing gifts.
More than 500 angels are expected on this year's tree, according to a press release.
"The brigade loves to participate in the Giving Tree because it is a way for us to connect with faculty, staff, and the community as a whole,” said Midshipman 1st class Michael Watrol of Rossford, Ohio. “In collaboration with the Salvation Army, we have been able to provide hope and smiles on Christmas morning for the past 23 years."
